JOHN PICKERING COMMISSIONS
The accompanying images have all been commissioned within the last 4 years, either by individuals or by corporate bodies.
If you would like to commission the artist, (normally for a completely new painting, but a "second version" of something you like that has been sold may also be possible), please refer to the 'Contact' section of the site.
However, a few guidelines are noted below:
1/ Paintings tend to be offered in the following sizes. * NB These are image sizes - framed sizes will be correspondingly larger of course *
14.5 x 9.5 cms
26 x 17 cms
40.5 x 14.5 cms
34 x 25 cms
44 x 34 cms
65.5 x 45.5 cms
2/ Work will generally be in Watercolour (or combined with Gouache) or possibly drawn in graphite, and will be produced on very high quality watercolour paper,( usually by 'Arches' or 'Saunders Waterford') of 90lb or 140lb weight, using the best quality professional art materials available.
3/ Mounting/framing is usually completed by the artist and included in a 'complete' price. John tends to favour plain contemporary mouldings in solid wood wherever possible (usually light oak or birch) and mounts are normally off-white. Hangings can be by cord or brass mirror plates as required.
4/ If work is to be sent via post/carrier, pictures can be glazed in 'perspex' to avoid breakage or alternatively priced unframed and rolled (although not to be particularly recommended for paintings!). Please enquire. Drawings have been sent successfully to Canada for instance, rolled in a tube.
5/ John always works from first hand reference material, usually a series of digital photographs taken by himself along with any sketches needed. If this is impossible, please still get in touch as a compromise can sometimes be reached.
6/ As a rough guide to pricing, a general landscape painting commissioned in watercolour of the size 34 x 25 cms, fully mounted and framed as described above in solid wood etc., will be in the region of £250 - £300.(April 2008)
7/ Please note that as with any work of art, watercolour paintings should not be hung in full sunlight, because of the risk of eventual fading despite the use of the highest quality materials. Thank you.
8/ A lead time of 2 - 4 weeks (from commission to completion) would be normal in most circumstances.
